Program Overview
Florida English Language Institute (FELI) offers intensive English language programs for international students, foreign residents and non-native speakers who wish to learn English for personal, academic and professional purposes. FELI is committed to professional excellence, student centered instruction, respect among students and faculty and expanding inter-cultural relationships within the school and community with student success as our goal.
The intensive program prepares international students and foreign residents with relevant and rigorous English language instruction enabling students to transition to American university academic work or wish to build English language professional skills. FELI provides each student with high level instruction based on research and best practices in the ESL field.
The outcome based curriculum program has six levels of instruction based on the student’s initial FELI English language placement assessment of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Sequential levels of instruction from beginning to advanced classes are offered in 4-Week Sessions, preparing students for entry to American universities or workplace advancement. English for Special Purposes classes are also offered for students needing a specifically designed format for their particular field of work.
The FELI ESL curriculum identifies achievement goals and proficiencies for each course of instruction with measurable outcomes for each student’s optimum achievement at each level. Course instruction is aligned with TESOL standards that are systematically delivered with a formative analysis of each student’s fluency achievement.
Active learning strategies within the classroom focus on grammar, reading, writing, and listening skills which develop fluency and overall English comprehension for academic college preparation and workplace advancement. Real life language practice through social interaction, attending cultural events and field based excursions are an additional benefit to classroom instruction and learning about American lifestyles.
